I'm looking to buy something that won't skip allot, I'm a runner and I would like to listen to something as I run... I was looking at some of the Sony models on fleabay and they seem pretty nice and fairly anti-skip... if anyone has any reccomendations PLEASE POST and help me out! thanks!

I have this Sony player that I use in the car, and while running. I've dropped the thing and it doesn't skip. I'd bet that any of the Sony's that have G-Protection (the name of their high end skip protection) would be good.

Just thought I'd mention the fact it is next to impossible to make minidisc players skip, plus the discs themselves are very compact. I think jogging is one of the best ways to take advantage of the minidisc format. I know you might know this and want to stick with CDs, just a suggestion. :)

Minidisc will skip like CRAZY if you dont keep it dust-free. I have several players and the plastic casing on the discs attracts dust like crazy due to static build up. I genereally keep the discs in my jacket pocket and have to blow em out every so often. Other than that they are usually skip free. I am still waiting for this to take off big in the us. I try to convince friends to buy them so hopefully one day I could buy decent prerecorded disc at a store instead of recording tunes gotten from napster.

But, I forgot to say. If your gonna get a portable cd player then Sony s really the only best choice. The sonys play louder than most other brands.

Hpkeeper: really? I have an older Sharp (player, not player/recorder) and I can literally smack the thing or drop it on my couch and it won't skip. I can only make it skip if I hit it repeatedly or if I put it on something that is constantly shaking/vibrating (like my car's dashboard).

Yeah really... the thing blows... It's been dropped a few times.... but it didn't skip when it was dropped, but now I think it's just had the crap beaten out of it, that could be part of it's problem.

Sony makes excellent CD players. I have a model that is about 3 years old. I cant remember the name off the top of my head, but it has a metal top, with red plastic everywhere. It looks futuristic. I dont put on the skip protection and can walk without it skipping at all.

Mine does not have radio. I think as long as you get a Sony you're in good shape as far as not skipping.

What about these portable MP3 players.. like the Nike PSA 120? are there any portable MP3 players like that, that are convienient to run with and skip free... that's basically the requirements... convienient and skip free.

Any solid-state mp3 player like a Rio or whatever will NOT skip - there are no moving parts! The downside is that you will pay more if you want to be able to carry around a decent amount of music.
