My friends mother asked my to fix their ANCIENT 386 computer. She want to fix it because she doesn't want to have to buy a new one. Well, It turns out that the motherboard is all jacked up, so I'm gonna replace it. The case is AT, so I am looking for an AT motherboard that supports any kind of processor between 200-300mhz. Any ideas. I need something cheap :)

Well, unless you pick something up from someone on Ebay or the like.... You will not save any money on getting a Mobo+K62 450Mhz Mhz over a Mobo+750Mhz duron...

Both sell for around 80-100 combined... plus you need some ram (which is CHEAP!)

Search on Ebay or for/sale trade forum.... you might find someone selling a combo deal for around 50 bucks or so!

Good luck!

If your goal is to keep this so she spends as little money as possible then you're gonna have to go with an AT socket7. That way she keeps the same case and if you get the right board, she'll still be able to use all of her ISA cards. If this is coming up from a 386, you'll probably have to get memory too.

Fry's has the FIC VA-503+ with a 500 MHz K6-2 for $59 (heatsink extra, $10 or less) and 128MB DIMM for $18 through Tuesday.

Can your friend wait until Fry's has another $79-99 bare bones case/power supply/mobo/CPU specials?

I liked the old Asus PI55t2p4 HX chipset mobo. I had the ATX version but the AT went up to 233Mhz and was highly recomended in reviews.

I used alot of the 503+ boards and never had a problem with them...and at that price...I could see some presents to kids who don't have a computer :)
