What's the best Netgear router for my dsl line?

My guess is that most or all will do what you want, so cost and other added features will be the main things. Also, how do you plan to connect the computers? If all in one room, use ethernet cables and just about any router will do. If spread out, then you have a couple of options to consider, including homepna and wireless. Provide a few more details about your setup and that might change the advice you get.

Some of the routers have added features you may or may not need, at least not now. I have the rp334, which supports homepna; it is great but a bit pricy, and you definitely don't want it if you don't have homepna. Even if you don't have or want wireless now, the Mr314 might be tempting; has 4 ethernet jacks and integrated wireless, at a price comparable to a wireless access point alone (makes me wonder what the catch is!) Best Buy has it pretty cheap this week. The rp114 seems to be a popular, fairly low cost model now. I'm not impressed by the parental control features that some routers have (You have to enter keywords and URLs yourself) so I wouldn't let that influence me too much.

When pricing, check Netgear's own price for selling to you direct. Usually, that isn't the way to go, but I've noticed that they have a few items (homepna stuff) cheaper there than other sites are selling for. Otherwise buy.com seems to have pretty good prices for the few items I have looked at. (I've seen people buying used Netgear stuff on Ebay for slightly less or even more than you can get it new at Buy.com -- makes me wonder how much these people are checking prices out first.) RW

What about the RP614? is that a good router? The looks of it look like it appeals to the imac crowed, but the specs look better then anything else in its price range.

The rp614 is brand new. I haven't seen any reviews of it yet. It looks like a more powerful version of the rp114, and appears to be a little more user friendly. I notice it only has a 3 year warranty rather than Netgear's usual 5.
