With Napster I think you have to stay a member to keep using their music. Alofmp3 is good but its kindda illegal. Try emusic (have never used them though)

Edit: Allofmp3 is too cheap though.

If you're going to do that, why not just use Kazaa or irc?

Because, not only do you get inferior quality, badly-encoded "rips", you run the risk of being bent over by the RIAA.

AllOfMP3 is somewhat legal-ish (sort of/not really), but the quality is excellent. Can you get FLAC or Ogg rips from Kazaa?

Well damn I'm trying to be a good guy and set a good example for my son BUT I just want to be able to buy a song or 10 for his PSP legally, I need mp3 format. Yahoo music looks good but when ever I try to preview I get a internal server error WTF? not very reliable.

There's nothing 'somewhat legal' about it... the only 'legit' part of it, is that you're paying for it, but the artists don't get a single penny of it... only the Russian mafia does.

And yes, if you know where to look, you can get FLAC rips.

Afaik no legal online service offers non-DRM'd music. Since buying from them is essentially telling them it's ok to trample our rights, I'd highly suggest you don't do so. On top of that, there's no sense paying full price for lossy music. No I'm not insisting you be an audiophile, lossless has many benefits other than sound quality. And so I'd suggest buying CDs.

I've always had good luck renting CD's from the library and, well, you know the rest. May not be his flavour of music though; depends on your local branchs selection.

Meh. Still a lot less likely to get caught than with anything related to the Fastrack network.

I like the fact that there's a LOT of music on there, it's all neatly arranged and easy to find, the AllOfMP3 Download utility rocks (built-in searching and ordering from the application), and the speeds are top-notch.

You'll be paying for the song, but you won't be buying it. You'll only be lining the pockets of Russian mobsters. That is if you're using Allofmp3.com

Sorry, i'm not a big fan of music, so i really can't help you out or suggest any good sites to buy music from.

Hah. It may be safe now, but what if the US convinces the Russian government to crack down on it... they'll have a database of who downloaded what, and even what creditcard was used. Much more info than kazaa could ever provide... at least kazaa, you can blame your neighbor for stealing your bandwidth through your unsecure network.

huh?

you mean iTunes?

I guess I could always do this:

If an MP3 player supports the protected Windows Media Audio (WMA) format, it should be able to play music that is downloaded from the MSN Music store. However, if your MP3 player does not play the music that is downloaded from the MSN Music store, you can burn the music to a CD and then convert the files to MP3 by ripping them in that format using Windows Media Player. View information on how to burn music to a CD. Note that our usage policy restricts you from making copies of music other than for personal use.

And experience the loss of quality you get going from one lossy format to another. Further, the most common method of doing this involves wasting CDRs. Three cheers for DRM...

lol! yeah I know how to do that I usually use CDex. The problem is my son doesn't have any of his own Cd's We have different tastes in music. for exampe he likes "3 doors down" but only a couple of their songs, I don't need the whole CD just a couple of songs.

I have ripped alot of my Cd's and I use to use P2P alot but I can't take any chances with p2p now a days due to my wifes job.
