Right now I just have one hard drive on my server computer that is shared on my network for others to play music via. What's the best way to share/stream mp3s to other computers and organize the files? iTunes is interesting, but from what I've heard it isn't doing too well right now.

Thanks.

Right... like you even read my post. Being a member from 2001, I would think you'd at least have a few marbles.

Also, just for the intelligence-impaired members.... This is on my home network. I'm talking about streaming music to other areas of the house. Sheesh.

I'm not really trying to hook it up to a home audio system (ours is crap anyways), but more the computers in other rooms. Also, it's quite expensive.

Using iTunes, you can share out your audio library and connect to it from any other computer on the network remotely (again, with iTunes).

It's nice to have one centralized place where my music is stored and be able to connect to and stream it to any computer in the house directly. Plus it takes about five seconds to set up and the iTunes client finds the served library automatically.

I'm working on a winamp plugin to share the media library like itunes does, except it'll work with any UPnP media server/player. It'll be done in about a week.

Sharing? Soulseek. Organizing? Can't you just use your standard file managment tools for that? If not, maybe it's a sign that they suck. ;)

Mp3mystic is pretty good, I use it to listen at work to my mp3s stored on my home machine.
