I want a graphics card that can run games like CoD5, farcry 2 and crysis.
Also i heard the GTX260 is good but will i need a intel core i7 like other models from nvidia?
slowSpyder: for the 159.99$ model it was 200MHz in memory clock is this a major factor

I beleive that card has something around 76Gb/s bandwidth... plenty of speed. It shows at 1200MHz for me.That core is similar to the 4890 in that it has 800 stream processors at 850MHz, plus all the bells and whistles that come with the new Radeon 5xxx cards. Chances are that card will be on par to faster than a GTX260. The reviews should start pouring in soon, I believe the official launch of that card is tomorrow.
The 4870 1GB and GTX260 (216 core) are very close to one another in performance, they are basically equals, one is sometimes faster than the other and vice versa depending on game and resolution. The 4890 is a small step above both of those cards. The 5770, I'm guessing - we'll see the reviews tomorrow - will fit somewhere between the 4870 1GB/GTX260 and the 4890.
The 5770 will be more than enough for your resolution. In truth, you could probably get by with a lot less card for 1280x1024 and save some money. Look at Nvidia GTS250's, Radeon 4830's, 4850's and 5750's. Any of those should do well enough at that resoution and save you money. The advantage of the Radeon 57x0 card is that you get DX11 capability.

did you really not know that 1200mhz for gddr5 is 4800mhz effective?

If you have the PSU, the choice is easy, but if you're on a stock OEM PSU, the choice is easy the other way.Originally posted by: blckgrffn

Yeah, except a 4850 can be had for $90... so $40 more for roughly equivalent performance from the 5750... there are some reasons to swing that, but its a little tough. Just had a client order a 4850 today for their build after seeing the reviews.
