Most of the 4X liteon drives are not made by liteon. I know that the 851S is but am not sure about the others. You can check out more detailed info over at cdfreaks

because they are over priced and basically do the same thing. Most of the time they all use the same cost, so you are basically just paying for the name.

right now its the lite on or nec 8x that im interested. id get the nec now if it read scratched cds better.

Get yo self the NEC ND-2500A. It's less expensive right now and nobody seems to have any complaints about that one.

I almost ordered myself one last night, but deleted it from the Newegg cart at the last moment. I already had a $540 order going and I figured that $540 + the $740 I spent there on the 16th was enough PC hardware for a three week period. I'll probably grab one + a second legit copy of Win XP in a few more weeks though.

i might get the 812s just because it reads damages dvds better.
