What's the best LCD for gaming?

My Sony CRT has one black streak and one grey streak about an inch wide going about half way across the screen. I have no idea what's going on but now I need a new monitor. Can someone recommend a good gaming LCD.

Could someone running a magnet accross my screen cause this? I think my six year old may have done this because he was asking me about magnets breaking computers the other day.

Also, I'm never buying another Sony monitor again.

I just talked to my six year old and he said he was running his magnetic Tech Deck on my screen. I guess this is the reason.

Does anyone know for sure if a magnet on a CRT can do this?

actually, magnets do cause damage to monitors. are the lines perfectly straight? usually magnets will just cause discoloration and you'll get a blurred effect. this is why center channel speakers are magnetically shielded.

Your kid's play with magnets near the screen could have caused the problem you describe. Try degausing your screen. It may take a couple of passes.

Oh man you just saved me about $600! :D Thanks!! The deqauss worked! I don't know why I didn't think of that. Anyway, the monitor is fine now and I'm one happy camper! Now I can quit researching LCD's (was going to buy the 172X) and get back to some gaming! But first I'm going to throw out all my kids magnets!
