Whats the best LAN hub for home use?

What's the best LAN hub to connect to computers with 10/100 LAN cards to a cable modem? I want to play Quake3 online while my wife chats on IM. Thanks.

The cheapest one. Not trying to be a smart aleck, but for the most part a hub is a hub.

Any of the netgear, linksys stuff would be fine.

Word of advice though, since you have 10/100 cards go ahead and buy a 10/100 switch. Much better performance for not much more money. For more info on sharing a internet connection check out this thread..

IP is the only protocol
if it is over 100 meters, then run the damn fiber
all new cable installations are cat10

you can get a 5 port 10/100 switch for around $50 these days. (linksys/d-link/netgear/etc)

I'm really gonna show my age now.

Paid $16,000 for a 5 port 10 meg ethenet switch from Kaplana. Switches are considerably cheaper nowadays.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to get the linksys five port from best buy for $30 after rebate . I've even got a gift card to best buy. I'll check out the sharing internet connection link, also.

Look for a open box return, bought the Linksys 5-port switch yesterday for $35.60 before the $10 rebate. Works like a charm, and a lot less noisy than the D-Link 10/100 hub I was using.
