Im looking into a good quality KT133A mobo for either a Duron 900 or Athlon 1.2C.
Im not going to overclock (had my fun doing that :) )
I want a good RAID controller for 2 devices
I want good speed and stability for gaming under Win98SE or Win2K
No need for ISA slots.
AGP is neccessary (obviously)
5 or 6 PCI slots
USB would be nice
UDMA support
ummm, thats about it.

What should I get?
Epox 8KTA3+
ABit KT7A-R
Aopen ??
Asus ??
Gigabyte ??
Iwill ??

ive read bits and peices on most of these boards but theres too much information for me to read in the amount of time I have available at the moment. I thought about a DDR mobo but here in Australia there's still quite a difference in price. 256mb DDR is about AUD$300 256mb PC133 is about AUD$140. Then theres an extra $100+ for a DDR mobo.

Anyway, let me know what you guys think.

IWill KK266-R, Asus A7V133, MSI K7t Turbo-R, and Epox 8KTA3+

All are good quality and since you're not overclocking, choose the one which suits your budget.

the asus a7v133 has a promise raid controller.
the iwill kk266r has an AMI raid controller

in my opinion the promise is better

but the kk266r has lots of options with the raid 1, 0, 1+0
depending on what revision of the asus a7v133 the new ones have both 1, 0 the older revisions only have raid 0. (i belive rev 1.04 and older are the ones with just raid 0

Right on, Boonesmi!

Axloz, I would choose the Asus A7V133. Many users point in the direction of the Iwill because it has madd overclocking abilities. I've used Asus in many of my builds and haven't experienced any problems that weren't remedied by a BIOS fix or an update. Iwill make a great board, don't get me wrong, but Asus is known for quality.

No flaming, please.

i'd wait a few weeks and grab an AMD761 based board prices will be more reasonable and a few more brands wil be released - epox & gigabyte are available now and are quite a bit faster than the 133A boards.

The promise raid controller is better than the HPT370 or AMI649, I would go with the Iwill KK266-R since it is the better board overall but if you are worried about the raid then go with the Asus A7V133 if you have to get a KT133a board. I would personally go with the Epox 8K7A+ (HPT370) or Gigabyte 7DXR (Promise)DDR Raid boards at this time. MSI has cleaned up the K7T266-R (Promise) so that is another DDR choice.
