Jerky is delish! And it's a pretty damn healthy snack. Plus after eating it a while your jaw is so sore from chewing you can't eat any more. It's also expensive as hell. I thought about trying to make my own beef jerky but honesty it looks like a lot more trouble than it's worth: here is a how-to, and another. Looks like a big pain in the ass and it doesn't look like much of a money saver. Though I'm sure it's quite good when it's homemade. Costco is selling Bacon jerky now which is also awesome, but almost $8 a pound (not too outrageous or anything).

There is lots of crappy jerky out there too, like the store brand garbage. What's the best brand and where's the best place to buy in bulk and save? Also, is turkey or chicken jerky any good?

DRIED MEAT!

I order jerky from lucasjerky on eBay. It is made with a commercial dehydrator and is very lean. Comes in many flavors and it is a traditional dry jerky. Runs about 25$ a lb with shipping. I found them by trying random jerkies on eBay and I consistently order from them.

dry dehydrated deer jerky venison meat. soaked for 2 or 3 days in liquid smoke, worchestershire & your blend of marinade. Dry & tough to chew, 24 hours in 140F oven with the door cracked.

They dry jerk recommended above on ebay sounds like a winner, gonna have to try it.

I enjoy the occasional jack links peppered flavored myself, I never thought of making my own though.

I like Wild Bills and Uncle Mikes. They're the best I've had, but my experience isn't very broad.

I'm preparing my second batch tonight. It's very easy to make. The good thing is the local supermarket slice them for me. The gf had given me the dehydrator a yr ago and finally got the chance to use it. Forever I will make my own.
Oh, it takes 4-5hrs to dry in the Presto unit.

Best I've had (wife/friends all agree) is the one I make in the $40 dehydrator I picked up at Costco a few years back.

It's super easy, not extremely time consuming and the fun part is coming up with different marinades/rubs.

It's easy to make in a smoker. I try to make a few pounds every month. You have the added benefit of knowing what kind of meat it is ;).
