the pulse gun that tom cruise uses in the 'minority report' looks like it'd be some fun.

edit: the gun that gary oldman shows off in 'the fifth element' was pretty neat also.

The Star Trek phaser of course:

1 - it's easy to conceal and looks like a cell phone
2 - there is a non-lethal setting so you can just knock out people. i.e. if there are no bruise marks, how can you get in trouble w/ the police?
3 - there is a lethal setting and you can cut through layers of steel
4 - it can be a time-bomb by overloading it

Lightsaber if you have the skill to use it, since it then can deflect bolts from any other energy weapon.

On TV, in SG-1 the Gou'ld hand device is apprently a weapon, force shield, healing device, all-around psionic amplifier.

I'd guess yes, the "blade" of a lightsaber is apparently an impenetrable field.

A lightsaber would probably be less useful against a crowd of Federation troops vs. Imperials though, since the beams are continuous instead of pulsed. On the other hand, the saber-deflected beams would also be continuous so would do much more damage as well.

phaser - flexible and also very powerful
the lightsabre is cool but come on do you really see yourself using it without accidentally chopping your own head off?

harlequin's kiss from warhammer 40K.

phasers just remind me too much of tv remotes.
