What's the best gaming mouse out there?

I have a Logitech Cordless Optical mouse + a Ratpadz.com gaming surface and it doesn't work properly combined (some of you may remember me b|tching about it a few days ago). I've came to the decision to keep the Ratpadz and buy a new mouse. I don't care if the mouse is Micorosoft or Logitech or cordless or with a wire. As long as it's optical, great for gaming and works flawlessly on Ratpadz. Price is not an issue as I can afford any good mouse out there.
I've narrowed down a few choices but I rely on more help :).

- Logitech Cordless Mouseman Optical
- Logitech Mouseman Dual Optical Mouse
- Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer Mouse 3.0 - Multilingual
- Microsoft Intellimouse Optical - Bilingual
- Microsoft Wireless Wheel Mouse
- Microsoft Wireless Intellimouse Explorer - Bilingual

Please state your opinions (remember, it must work great with Ratpadz).
Thanks.

I don't really know about mice working with a Ratzpad or not..is it shiny or something??

But I am using a Logitech Dual Optical which happens to be a very nice mouse.

I use mine on a func surface1030 mouse pad and it works very well.

There is no ideal gaming mouse. It is all personal preference, go down to Comp USA or Best Buy and try out a bunch of mice and see which one you like.

I happen to use an Intellimouse Explorer on a piece of construction paper. I've found that construction paper gives the right amount of traction and the surface of the paper allows the optical mice to track perfectly.

I agree with that, find the one that you're most comfortable with & you will game better.

But I like my intellimouse optical.

Ok how about a mouse that has 2 small extra buttons on each side for games like MOHAA?

I've had the original Microsoft Intellieye Explorer mouse for more than two years and it's by far the best mouse I've ever used, especially for gaming.

The Razor Boomslang was touted as the gaming mouse many months, or years ago...might still be if it wasn't discontinued. Anyway, my guess is that cordless mice aren't good for gaming. I have a Logitech freedom Cordless mouse and keyboard and when my frens were at my place for a LAN party, 1 of them who was using the system with that mouse/keyboard setup was complaining of the insensitivity of the mouse.

Razer Boomslang+fUnc1030=teh ownage!

I love this combo. They just started making the Boomslangs again, I grabbed mine for $28 when they were running their specials (thanks to halik for the find!). it's like playing in greasy baby pooh, it's soooo smooth.

A good gaming mouse would be the Logitech Mouseman Dual Optical,I did see a review of the Ratpad and they actually tested it with the Logitech Dual Optical mouse which worked well together according to the review.

I use an MS Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 (the 3.0 is important!). 6000 polls to the optical eye a second is kinda nice... I can't get this sucker to screw up with fast twitch moves or anything ;)

I use it on a normal mousepad with a dark surface to it... Although I used to use a func surface1030 up until when I killed it... I loved that thing... Kicked the crap out of all the other "high end" pads... RadPadz and Everglide are nothing in comparison.... sorry, just 1/8th of a inch thick, mouse cord holder for no catching and a rubber under surface.... hot damn... how do you beat such a great pad?

Don't make me tell the story of how I kill my fUnc 1030 though... it still makes me cry... :( I'm getting a new one soon though... ;)

But anywho... I still am yet to find a person that didn't love my MS Intellimouse Explorer 3.0... Try one out man, you won't regret using one... they're so nice... Plus the nylon mouse feet are incredibly durable... much better than the teflon feet the Logitechs use... I'm not bashing Logitech, I just try to point out what I find to be the best... but I agree, the best way is to use them all and make your decision then... but for gaming, DO NOT GET WIRELESS, I will tell you right here and now you will not be happy with slight latency and low rate that they use...

Also I don't recommend the Boomslang... Granted, Razer recently came back into business and are now supporting stuff again... But my friend had one and he broke 4 of them and then they went out of business so he bought a Logitech... he never wants to see another boomslang ever again... Would you after such a shoddy track record? Plus they're too damned sensitive, I mean yeah, sensitivity is nice, but there is a certain point at which it gets totally ridiculous... It may be more sensitive but it's just as accurate as any other USB/PS2 mouse... That's determined by poll rate... 125/sec for USB, 200/sec for PS/2... Can't exceed it...

Although it begs questioning... how fast can USB 2.0 mice go? lol

Here's to MS mice, they're great for gaming. It usually is not so much the mouse as the sensitivity you set in each game. If you lower/raise your sensitivity, you can find the happy medium for any mouse.

I use an Microsoft Intellimouse Optical (2.0?). Has one button on each side, and I love the the mouse. Had it for 2 years, never screwed up on me. I just use it on my woodtable, slides with ease.

Ok, I've narrowed down to these 2 choices:

- Logitech Mouseman Dual Optical Mouse
- Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer Mouse 3.0 - Multilingual

Both cost $79.99 CAD at my local FutureShop store here in Toronto.
I hope I'll hear a little more comments on these 2 mice before I head down to the store :).

I use the Intellimouse Explorer 3.0, with a black Everglide attack pad.

It's fantastic, but I've gone through three intellimouse explorers already. After about 9-12 months of heavy use, they just die: clicking when i don't press the button, light goes out occasionally, doesn't track right.

Microsoft has superior hardware support. As long as the item is under $100, they will ship you a brand new item for free (one time they sent it to me next day air). I talked to the tech support guy there and they said that the older versions of the Intellimouse Explorer (before 3.0) had an issue where the wires going into the mouse were very thin and easy to loosen; he suggested that there be plenty of slack on the mouse cord when in use.

No troubles with my 3.0 so far, it's been about 3-4 months. I'll never go back to a ball mouse again.

Isn't the Razor Boomslang a ball mouse? I don't think the guy wants one of those.

I've had an Intellimouse Explorer 1.0 and a 3.0 and I must say a couple of things. The 3.0 has a better design that contours to your hand better, but the side buttons suck big time cause they are too small and sensitive to touch. I like the 1.0 side buttons alot more cause they seem to have more resistance to them and they're larger, but the design is pretty drab and doesn't contour to your hand. Overall though, they are both great mice.

I've heard alot of good things about the Logitech dual opticals but I haven't had a Logitech mouse since my 3 button one from 11 years ago(I still have it and it works fine).

I like my Logitech Mouseman Dual Optical Mouse a lot. It can handle fast movement in FPS games and has really good precision. I almost got the MS mouse you are considering too. They are both very good mice. However, the Logitech seems to fit better in my hand. The two you have narrowed it down to are both excellent choices. I would just go see which one fits your hand better.

Yeah I had the problem with the loose wires too with my pre-3.0 version Intellmouse Explorer... I'm glad though, the shape of the 3.0 is so damned nice... And just for the record, the buttons aren't too sensitive if you just rest your thumb below the buttons :p

I use them regularly though, so a nice sensitive button is good :D I dunno, I like the side buttons much more on the 3.0 than the old Explorer design, mostly because my thumb on the old design could never reach the front side button... that annoyed me to hell...

Another thing I like about the 3.0 is that you can map all of the buttons in games as mouse1, mouse2, mouse3, mouse4, and mouse5

The logitech can't do this... I've tried, unless they recently started allowing up to mouse4...

Ok, I got a Microsoft Intellimouse Optical - Bilingual as Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer Mouse 3.0 - Multilingual was sold out, and I didn't want to wait. Logitech Mouseman Dual Optical was available but it had a weird design and didn't have a extra button on the right side. I'm trying my new mouse as I speak on the Ratpadz surface and it works very well. I'm gonna go and try this on a few games :).

Thanks to all the guys/girls here that helped me get a new great mouse :).

Same here and it even took a direct hit from a full beer last week with no ill effects. I am sold.

I honestly believe that my MS intellimouse w/wheel and ball (no optical) is best.

Perfect fit in hand, perfect weight and feel. Opticals are too light for me.

I can attest that my Logitech cordless optical is way too imprecise/coarse for gaming. Great for general use, but just not precise enough for gaming. I have a regular Logitech mice with ball, but I've gotten used to the cordless optical's shape. I might look into that Logitech dual optical as well as it has similar shape.
