My old motorola ones will not hold a charge anymore. Is there a hands free earpiece -mic version?

I would get something for MURS. FRS is a shit fest like CB. Although a DCS squelch code could help.

I've always had good luck with VHF. MURS is VHF where is FRS is UHF.

Or you could use Nextel i355's. I have three and work great. Read my post here: https://www.systechforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=129

The i355 is like a Motorola DTR, but the DTR is much more costly. The technology is the same though. FHSS and a VSELP vocoder.

Here's the DTR for reference: http://www.ebay.com/sch/Radio-Communication-/1500/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=dtr

You would need a programming cable and the free software from /\/\otorola to program the DTR. They are all compatible with one another.

I'm thinking hands free could be achieved with a Bluetooth ear piece and a Bluetooth receiver connected to the mic/ear piece. Not sure.

I wanna get something that my friends have. I believe everyone has frs

I don't know which FRS radio would be the best. Motorola makes good radios and they do have them with built in GPS. I would go to http://forums.radioreference.com/ and ask. They would definitely know for sure. I just listen to the neighbors on FRS and never use it. I do own a few scrambler capable FRS radios for a SHTF scenario along with my other radios. Although voice inversion is easily defeated. I have done it with a simple program on my computer. Cordless phones used it.

I wouldn't believe the 16 mile crap. That's only printed on the blister packs because the manufacture did a test in flat, open terrain in no mans land Texas or some damn place. I asked this very question and a product representative from Uniden told me this.
