What's the best free codec for DV video--suitable for putting a file on web?

I've got some DV video I want to encode (captured on a camcorder with Firewire) and I wanna know what's the best video codec for making web-suitable videos (something that doesn't take gobs of bandwidth, can play while streaming, universally accepted, etc.)

Trying to decide between MPG1, WMV, or Divx5. Any other free codecs based on a more 'official' MPEG4??
