What's the best free benchmarking software?

It depends on what you want to test your computer on. 3dmark2k1 is a pretty good one for overall performance. (and more slanted towards video cards). SiSoft would be a good all purpose benchmarking utility.
 
3dmark2k1 is a pretty good "realworld" benchmark and a whole bunch of people use it, so it is easy to compare with people.
However, if you want a bunch of synthetic information.... SiSoft can give you a whole bunch of stuff on ram, cpu's, harddrives.. etc.
