"What's the best fan for the SLK-900 for quiet cooling?"

"What's the best fan for the SLK-900 for quiet cooling?"

I'm thinking big and slow... hmm, I'm not sayin I think slow, even though I do. 🙂

A Panaflo or a Pabst 92 mm fan. I use a Pana 92 mm high flo and it comes in at 35 DBA which is acceptable to me. The low flow models are in the 20's as far as DBA is concerned. It keeps my 3.06 nice, cool and quiet.

35-36dba is by no means quiet.
The Zalman zm-f2 is only $6, has a standard rating of 53@36, but the undervolting adapter put its @ 20dba.
Unless you have a rheobus I'd recommend this fan. I have 2 of them, and I'm going to put one on my 900, which should be here shortly. I haven't heard the 92mm panafloL1a, but its rated @ 27dba and is more expensive. just my $.02

You got the high output fan. I have the same one and fine it entirely acceptable. It has good airflow and is not overly loud even with my case open. Just plug it in and see if you like it. If not, get something to decrease its speed, either a rheobus or just plug it into a lower voltage plug.

Newegg had two 92mm fans by panaflo and this one, the one I bought was the slower and quieter of the two offered.

I also ordered the FBA09A12H1A (from NewEgg). Do these things come bare wired? Can I just snip the wires and 3-pin plug-in end off my Intel fan (and splice them together) and use the 3-pin connector to plug it in to the MB cpu plug-in?

I'm not sure of the mixup bupkus. I think the L and the H are the 2 designations in question, but here's what I see on NewEgg for Panaflo 92mm.'s. It's just the two, and neither of them are described with an L.

Panaflo FBA09A12U1A - 3450 RPM - 68.8 CFM - 43.0 dB
Panaflo FBA09A12H1A - 2850 RMP - 56.8 CFM - 35.0 dB

As I said in my post above, I bought the 2nd one in the list, obviously being the slower and quieter of the two.

I'll give ya'll some temps. when I'm up and running Tuesday night. I've got a 2.53b coming that I'll be running on a Asus P4PE with with a 512 stick of Geil PC3500 and the SLK-900...and I'm hoping for at least 3.1+ GHz.

You can find panaflos with a 3rd rpm wire, but the ones spoken of here with 2 bare leads will not give you any rpm info. The 3rd wire (typically white or blue)on the 3-pin is the rpm monitor

Mine have, as all panaflos probably do, a 3 pin out from the fan itself. The tail I have has a 3 pin connector with only 2 wires present. Does this mean that if all panaflos with the 3 pin out and only 2 wires were to have the 3rd wire inserted we could monitor rpms?

All (or most all, at least)Panaflo fans have a 3-pin connector off of the fan motor, there you attach the tails.
3-pin
4-pin

What I mean to ask is, if I take my 3-pin, 2-wire panaflo and replace the 2-wire with a 3-wire tail, could I then monitor the RPMs?

Yeah, you can do that with the 3-pin tail I linked above.
That's a really great retailer, too, btw, and the only one of which I know of hand that carries those.

This came up in a thread a bit ago. There's some discussion in shipping practices and the like there.

LOL! Bump for a good quote. 😀

Panaflo L1a is a good choice, btw, though I'm sure you've made up your mind by now... you're not THAT slow are you? (sorry, couldn't resist) 😛

/me shake head

$8 bucks? What a rip, I just got four of these babies. For 39 cents each, how can you go wrong? Just a little splicing, and now I got 2 of them running, nice and quiet.
