I am thinking of whether or not to oc my barton 2500+ and i wanted to know what the best fan controller would be if i did so. If i go through with this then I'll end up getting the thermalright slk900u and probably some case fans but i was just wondering what would be best for fan controll speed. I really want to keep noise at a minimal when it's not in use and i guess if im working on the comp then noise up to maybe about 45 db wouldnt be too bad. This is going to sit in my dorm room probably all day.

I wouldn't recommend a external (i.e 3.5" or 5.25" fancontroller) fancontroller for the CPU fan. It's easy for a friend/you/your sister/your dog etc. to put it for exampel 5V and *oops* not good when you OC'd and increased Vcore.

Just my 2 cents

I agree, an external fan controller for your CPU fan is a bad idea. Maybe get a Sunbeam rheobus for your other fans and use a quite (ie Panaflo) fan for your CPU. If you get a good fan with a higher CFM and a lower noise rating you wouldn't have to worry about adjusting it. Plus, if you are willing to have noise rating of up to 45 db you could even get a "noisier" fan. I have a cheap LED fan that runs about 32-35 db when at full speed (this is a case fan, and rheobus controlled, because I don't want 35 db).

[EDIT]Oh yeah, I like Sunbeams cuz they can turn fans totally off and have 20 watts per channel x4 channels and can power lights etc. Just thought I should give reasons for why I said Sunbeam.[\EDIT]

I heard some of these make noise when you turn fans down. Does the Zalman make noise and do the nobs fit behind a case door?

Or if you want a cheap solution, you can go to iocombo.com and find the one from Eumax Fan Speed Controller. But I agree that external fan controller for CPU heatsink is not exactly a good idea :)
