He will probably suggest that he get the Sony that burns both -r/rw format and +r/rw format.

Of course I think for the price you can't go wrong with a dvd-r/rw drive considering the media costs. I would suggest looking in the hot deals forum and trying to get in on a cendyne drive

Well he will need some special software to do it without him having to know anything. Most movies are DVD-9 which means over 9 gigs of data while dvd-r media only holds 4.7 gigs so you have to split most movies and features onto two dvdr's

Or downconvert some stuff and make it fit on one.... much better option.

New software called dvd2one out that does this procedure in 30 min or so. It doesn't do it the same way CCE does it and I heard that quality takes a bit of a hit

The Sony DRU500a is an awesome drive!:) I have two of them now and these things are very nice speed wise and even cost wise IMHO. You can now find them for about $310 and you can burn any DVD format as well as CD's!

Edited spelling, Monday morning!

2nd Vote. Or get the Pioneer A05. In any case, he is going to want to get a drive that burns in the DVD-R format.

My Sony DRU-120A has been very reliable. If I would have waited two months, I would've gotten the 500...

"Response."

You'll get plenty of it here, albeit not as reliable as general hardware.
