Hi,

I am purchasing a radeon hd4830. I wanted to know the best non overclock intel dual core CPU to match up for the money spent.

I don't mind some slight cpu limitation if it results in saving a fair amount of money. I don't overclock much as I really don't have time to tweak anymore. If not cpu limited... I might o/c the HD a little. I have xp and am upgrading to VISTA.

Thanks

Thanks for the replies. This is for casual gaming for the next few years. The most advanced game I have is Crysis.. but again, I am looking to get good use for the 4830 for the next few years. I have 4 gigs of ram on a decent dual core mb. (Not in front of me right now).

So again, is there a noticeable difference in current games with regards to CPU limitation with respect to - say the e7300 or the e8500 using a 4830 on a decent system? Or possibly - the next iteration of dx.xxx - any CPU consideration there?

I used to follow this much more... but I don't really have the time anymore.

Thanks Again.

Well you could always just grab an E5300 and use a Bsel mod. I know you dont want to overclock, but a BSEL mod offers basically free performance and the E5300 cost something like $85 shipped. Its a great little chip.

If you insist not overclocking, an E8400 might do but that is somewhere around $150-160 I believe.

Yep, if it isn't on newegg it might as well not exist :p

I was wrong, it is actually on newegg now. For $80 it isnt a bad processor. Looking at a few benchies it seems it performs a bit better than a stock E5200, except it uses a lot more power.....

Probably an E7200 or E7300 if you can find one around $100. An E5200 should be fine too. If you're looking for longevity though, you may want to consider overclocking. It's a great (free!) way to squeeze more life out of your chip.

Heh, I just had to mention the newest X2 before some flaming AMD fanboi entered the thread screaming AMD! AMD! The OP is looking for Intel, anyway.

Amen to that. With the 3mb of L2 cache, it can start to compete. Also, with Intel motherboards being a bit more expensive for the same features, you might as well go AMD at the price points.
