what's the best divx codec pack for playing most things?

what codec pack should I install to play almost anything, but is relatively fast and bug-free?

Nimo codec pack is more well known, but the Ace Mega CodecS pack is the most complete. You want to be sure to get the "player version" and not the "pro" version, because the latter has spyware in it.

ffdshow, I haven't touched NIMO myself. Codecs can be tricky, do it wrong and you'll be in a lot of pain trying to figure out why your video won't play

NIMO = EVIL, PURE UNADULTERATED EVIL

all you need are .. DIVX, XVID AC3 .. some cases of OGM

install FFdshow + AC3 codec and you should be able to play pretty much everything. I never liked nimo.
