I'm a Sony fan, but others aren't, I would get the A55. Look on eBay for these and get one that has Svideo out and Dolby Digital output -- those are the key features which you will want. Other goodies include an RF remote (numerous models have that).

They're all pretty much the same, except for slight differences in the program guide layout. If you can, use one or more brands at a store or a friends house to get a 'feel' for the guides. The Hughes has a handy feature I like called TurboTune the others don't. The RCA's are pretty generic. Don't have a Sony. If you want Dolby Digital (surroud sound) be sure to get one with Digial Optical out. Note that if you're into HDTV there are some pretty nice ($$$$$$) units that do both DTV HDTV and over the air HDTV in one unit - if you have an HighDef ready TV.

Get the one with Tivo built-in if you don't already have a Tivo. I can't imagine life without my Tivo. BTW, I used an RCA DirecTV box for years without problems.

Radio Shack has the RCA one for 27.00 w/ free dish installation. I am sure everyone will have their own personal preference. I have been trying to pull up info off google and it is mainly storefronts that sell the equipment.
