What's the best deal on memory for an HP DV5000?

My friend has a HP DV 5000 laptop with 1gb (two 512mb sticks) and his video card uses shared memory so 128mb is being used. So that plus background programs and regular programs. It can bog down.

Since he is using XP 32bit he can't go beyond 3gbs.

So what is the best deal on two 1gb sticks to amp it up to 2gbs of total memory and give his laptop a much needed boost.

He wants me to e-mail him the best place to get memory. He is looking for the cheapest price.

I can't seem to find the exact memory specs for his laptop.

It appears his laptop only supports 2gb max. http://crucial.com/store/listp...avilion%20dv5000%20CTO

So 1gb DDR PC3200 200pin SODIMM

Best deal I could find was at Newegg.com for two 1gb sticks total with shipping $68.97: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820227109

Know of a better deal?

Anyway to get the motherboard to accept more? Since XP is a 32-bit os it would only use 3gb if he got 4gb anyways. However his video card uses 128mb of memory so an extra gig might come in handy. If there is a way to get the laptop to accept more than 2gb.

If not and just adding the maximum amount of 2gb and then using a usb flash flash drive as virtual memory would it provide any extra speed boost? Seen here: http://cnettv.cnet.com/2001-1_53-50004761.html also what size of flash drive as well?

It also seems his laptop doesn't support dual channel.......So would it be better to just get one 2gb stick then? Rather than two 1gb and if just one stick could the other 512mb stick be left in and used for the video card?

The maximum memory a motherboard can support isn't OS bound, it's BIOS/chipset/motherbound bound. There may be a BIOS update to allow 4GB of RAM. It's worth checking out.

You'll also want to make sure you can use 2GB modules, if I was at work, I could tell you exactly what kind of memory configurations you could use. But I'm not at work, and I don't really feel like researching that unit right now.

Any performance gains from using a flash drive as additional virtual memory aren't going to be huge, if very noticeable at all.

After doing further research....

As far as I can tell the memory is DDR 200pin SODIMM and supports PC3200 & PC2700 which only goes up to 1gb total. So have to get two 1gb sticks to max it out.

From what I gathered online.
