What's the best cooler for an Opteron 165?

I'd like something cheap if possible.

I'm hoping to hit 2.7ghz+ with this upgrade.

I have a stock AMD heatsink on there now; I think it has 4 pipes (2 on each side).

The AMD stock 4 pipe HS is no slouch, give it a try first. I'm using an Artic Cooling Freezer Pro 64 on my Opteron 170, socket 939, at 2.8Ghz.

Thanks, I just got the Freezer Pro 64 - it's incredible! It keeps my chip at 55C under full load at 2.76ghz. I used to be stuck at 2.5. 🙂

I have a Thermalright xp-120 that keeps my opt 165 at 40C full load... but i can only overclock to 2.5ghz. I wonder if i'm doing anything wrong.

You probably need more voltage.

Remember to turn down the HTT to 3X.

Mine is set to a 'memory divider' of 266mhz.

I set the multiplier to 9, and the FSB to 300 to make 2700mhz. 🙂

The nice thing about this Freezer 64 cooler is that the fan is completely disabled unless my CPU is under full load. Even under load at 1.5v I'm only hitting 53C. This cooler is the best $25 I've ever spent on my computer! 🙂
