What's the best cheap DVD player to get these days?

deftron

Lifer
Nothin too cheap like Apex ...

My 3 year old JVC one is dying .. skips on everything (CD's, DVDs, SVCDs)

Need at least:

Progressive scan
Front display
Plays DVDs. VCDs, and SVCDS fine

Other formats would be cool but not necessary

About $100 or less would be nice

Mine is a Daewoo.

Plays CD's, (S)VCD's, DVD's, mp3's.

Code/Region free. Switchable NTSC/PAL output. If it's on a CD or a DVD, it'll play it.

I like this RCA one we have now... couldn't tell ya the model number without unplugging it and pulling it out... and I'm not going to do that. But it's nice... quiet, fast, reads most burned DVD's.

I was thinking of getting this for the bedroom today. Doesn't say if it plays svid, but my other toshiba does. That may not be the lowest price, I have a J&R giftcard so was shopping there.

Is your Toshiba the silver VCR/DVD combo one? Our's stopped working months ago and we bought it maybe a year and a half ago.

u'd be surprised how good even the cheap apex type ones are now.. progressive scan standard and such. just wait for a sale..should be like 30 bux?

Have you tried some shots of compressed air on the pickup?

Do yall know if the DVP642 converts PAL ?

MAinly for SVCD's ... not DVD's since it would need to be region free

press "7 8 9 GO 0" in that sequence makes it region free. I picked one up at a local store for under $70 since my Toshiba died after almost 10 years of service.

our first toshiba dvd player lasted from 1998 to 2005.... the second one i bought lasted 6 weeks and 3 days....it would play the first 2 or 3 chapters of a dvd then it will start to either skip or freeze....
