What's the best cell phone service in the NYC area?

Hi,

I plan on attending Columbia University next semester and I need a new cell phone plan. The ones I am considering are Verizon, Sprint, and Cingular. I'd like to have free roaming and long distance included. So which provider has the best service?

Verizon has the best coverage, not sure about plan options.

not in the NYC area here (DC, northern va)--- but i've used sprint pcs for the past year and havent had a single problem with it at all... its really good.

Sprint's got great coverage in Manhattan. And Columbia is a GREAT school... congrats!

I'm a SoCal guy that has a love affair with NYC. I've been to Manhattan a few times, and I always can't wait to go back. I'm going to move there when I'm finally done with grad school...

Sprint has pretty crappy coverage in the tri-state area... ny/nj/ct

I would go with Verizon..

I've been all along the North Eastern Coast.. with this phone.. and I have received exceptional service..

I have AT&T and have had no problems, but I've been hearing Verizon is good as well. Go with one of those two, whichever has the best plan available.
