LG is also a good reliable name for Optical drives.

I have both Nero and EZCD installed. Mainly I use Nero for Audio CDs and/or for Nero Image drive (for use with M3U2SB). And EZCD for CD 'backups' and general purpose burning.

Best quality go with a Yamaha 44x24x44 burner and CDR's with Mitsubishi chemicals dye (Verbatim Data Life Plus 48x).

Never used a Plextor but I have a friend who swears by them. I have 3 Lite Ons and they have all been perfect. Great product for a great price. Since they have never failed me I don't see a need to consider Plextor. Also.... his Plextor sounds like a coffee grinder.

Another for Lite-On

I've had experiences with many CDRWs, older Sony, Plextor, Yamaha, LG, Samsung, older HP, Acer...etc. Sony used to bundle the worst software ever. LG drives were more unreliable than the rest. Samsung wasnt bad because we used them for the CDRW/DVD combo. HP were good till they stopped making CDRWs. Acer was the worst. Plextor and Yamaha are good expensive drives, however they do have their share of unreliability, but at a lower percentage than the rest. So far my company has been using Lite-On for 2 years now. I dont remember, not even once, when the customer brought the computer back with a bad Lite-On CDRW.

The latest TDK is also a LiteOn with the trademark translucent blue tray.

I currently have Yamaha CRW-F1 (SCSI version) and this is the quietest and the most reliable drive I have used.

I did have Lite-On drive before, and while I didn't really have any huge issues with that drive, Lite-On drive was pretty noisy during reading disks and sometimes wouldn't read low-quality or scratched disks. I do not have that problem with Yamaha, so the premium price was really worth it in my opinion.
