Have a customer who wants to edit video from her 8mm camera on the new to-be-built pc. I know relatively zip about video editing. Any recommendations on hardware? She plans to use Adobe Premiere Suite software.

TIA

If your customer has a defined budget, you will get better answers. There is a huge amount of various hardware, and you could spend anywhere from not much money, all the way to more than you would think any sane person could afford.

Your customer's experience level, and the level of quality they expect are important considerations. Are they going to burn to CD's?, back to video? DVD Burner?

What platform are they going with? Do they already have Premiere?

Check this site out, lots of good info here.VCD help Be sure to check the comparisons of capture cards, and video formats/codecs.

I factored in $350 for an ATI Radeon All-In-Wonder as a starting point. Her editing experience is nil (as is mine).

The system in question will be:
AMD 1600 XP
ECS K7S5A Mainboard
512 PC-2100 DDR - Crucial
(2X) 60 GB 7200 H.D.'s
24X Lite-On CD-RW
16X Lite-On DVD
Creative Labs 5.1 Sound Card

They have access to Premiere 6.0 but have no set preferences. The net result of her work is for personal pleasure not for resell at this point. She has indicated that she would like to burn her work back to CD.

I'll check the recommended site for more info.
Thanks for the help.

I'd like to suggest more RAM and maybe a faster processor (or slightly ocing the 1600+) for video editing.

Dear bellgoody,

For video editing, as your customer experience is nil, you can choose Pinnacle DV200 Firewire Digital Video Editing card for $ 240 (Adobe Premiere 6.0 included).
But if your customer need something more advanced, try Pinnacle DV500 Plus, Native DV Editing With Real-time Effects, Titles and Filters. Combines analog and digital video sources with a professional set of real-time features. Digital Video Editing Card with Adobe Premiere 6.0 Editing Software. for $489;)

Thanks for the tip(s).

From the images I saw at Newegg, I take it that the Pinnacle DV200 Firewire Digital Video Editing card is a daughter card and the Pinnacle DV500 Plus is both a graphics card and a video capture card. Correct?
