What's the best card for $200 or less?

Right now I have a 7600GT, but I'm thinking about upgrading. I would probably buy it used because then I can get a better one for the money. So $200 or less (used price) and how would it compare to my 7600GT?

depends really. You could get a 7900gt/7950gt and then step-up to a 8600 series when they come up if you want nvidia and like eVGA (i personally love eVGA, the only company I will ever buy nvidia from for the forseeable future). If you want ATI/AMD you could probably find a nice 1900xt 256mb, x1950xt, or x1900gt around that price used if you got lucky. With DX10 already out and the mainstream g80's so close though the smartest choice would be to grab a good 7 series right now and step up when they come out. That way you can then upgrade to DX10 and Vista whenever you felt like it, with the added bonus of having a mainstream card that is supposed to run DX9 faster than any pre G80 card currently out.

IN the 200 dollar range you can move into a decent card with a 256bit memory bus, doubling the bandwidth of the 7600GT for example Foxconn FV-N79GM2D2-HP GeForce 7950GT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card. This has a rebate which is love hate relationship, but gets you in a newcard without anybody elses baggage attached to it and with a warranty to some extent. There are several other options like the x1950 from ATI is also in that price range that has the 256bit bus.

Good Luck

How would those cards compare to my 7600GT? Like how many more FPS would I get with the same settings with CS:S or DoD:S?

In all honesty.. if you can wait. The 86 and 8400s are due out in a few and should be priced so that you can affordably move to dx10.

Don't you need Vista for DX10? I won't be getting Vista for a while probably...

you do need vista for DX10, but the 8 series cards play DX9 games better than any current cards out. So their advantage is you get a card that CAN use DX10 if you decide to get vista, but it can also whoop @ss in DX9 games if you don't want to go to vista right now. A 7950gt would give a considerable frame jump over a 7600gt, though in Source it wouldn't be as noticeable because that engine is made to run well on everything. If you want to do the step-up though make sure you get the card from eVGA as they are the only company that offers it currently.

Another advantage that comes with the 8 series cards is the improved image quality.

Speaking of IQ, do the 8 series cards still have problems with counterstrike and the haziness or did that get figured out?

X1900XT for sure. If your power supply is up to the task though.

If not a 7950GT will also do you fine. (X1950pro/7900GT could be other possbilities).

And the half life2 fog bug isnt going to get fixed anytime soon. nVIDIA says its the game engine i.e think its valve's problem and Valve thinks its nVIDIAs problem. (its a non nVIDIA related issue found in the latest driver release note)

Please, no more red green fights children. It's getting very tiresome.
Go with the X1900XT. I was going to get that or the X1950XT (i've said this before) if I could run dual slot cooling, but, alas..
