A few months ago, I bought my youngest son a GTX 1050 TI 4GB video card used, for about $70.
It uses about 75 Watts, and gives a performance of about 6,300 on Passmark.

For Christmas last year, I built a PC for my oldest son, using a Ryzen 5500GT processor. It has a video performance of
about 2,500. Not bad, since he mostly plays older games, and only a couple of them have any 3D. However, for his upcoming
birthday, I'd like to get him a card that would let him play more 3D games that came out up to say, 3 or 4 years ago.

Should I just get another used GTX 1050 TI for $70, or do you think that another card out there is a better value
for what you get? Thanks for your thoughts!

Might be able to find a 5600 XT for around that price. The TDP is rated a bit higher than what you have listed, but if you're willing to undervolt it a bit, it should work. The main concern I'd have with it is the 6 GB of VRAM which may cause it to choke horribly.

If VRAM is a concern an 8 GB 570 wouldn't be a bad option. Once again it's a bit above your listed TDP, but Polaris generally ran faster at lower temps with a good UV. The biggest issue is that it was probably used as a mining card at some point if that's an issue for you at all.

If 4 GB VRAM isn't going to be a problem, a GTX 1650 Super is a better option than a 1050 Ti. A 1660 Super is also a good choice. It has 6 GB of VRAM and is just a nose above your TDP range at 125W. It's closer to $100, but you could probably find one under that price. I think that would be your best all around choice.

I don't know enough about any of the Intel cards to know if they might have a good fit for your needs, but they might have something that works at a reasonable price.

How about a new 6500 xt ?

Needs PCIe 4.0 or performance can tank hard. 5500GT is PCIe 3.0.

1660 is a good choice. 120W for most stock models. Hits the $100 price point. There are GTX 1650 and supers under $100 too. Considerably better than the 1050ti, the super especially so. I shoot for the 6GB cards though.

I wanted a GTX 1650, but the fellow was taking too long to get back to me, and I needed one asap for a birthday party. I ended up finding another GTX 1050 TI for $35, just 5 minutes from my house. I guess we're set until Christmas, or maybe birthday next year.

i would find a used 1660ti/Super.

The 1050ti is probably best used a phsyx card.

Just remember most used 1660's you find will probably be retired mining cards from etherium days, so they may need a repadding / good cleaning on them.

I was gonna recommend an RTX 2060(Super) or 5700XT, maybe possible to get one in the $100 range, but sounds like you already found another GTX 1050Ti card, and for a good price at least. Hope it is a good birthday.
