ever hear of Rush? Probably not despite the fact they have been a staple on american rock radio for over 31 years. They are musician's musicians and are an acquired taste, but if you like the complicated musical stuff, give them a try.

And if you like men who sound like women, give it a try. They put EMO kids to shame.

Definitely. Geddy Lee must have some scrambled genetics because he has the frail frame of a woman and could sing soprano 1 notes on the earlier albums.

Still, each of the bands three members has been acclaimed by their peers at being among the best technicians at what they do, and they're all in the same band. Neil peart is unquestionably the best rock drummer alive today, according to most drummers. Plus it helps there are only 3 of them so there is more creative freedom. If you are a normal person and completely hate Rush, it is an understandable matter of taste. But logically, it means you aren't a musician.

Hm, I'm a musician and completely hate Rush. The best rock music (let's just include most music derived from folk traditions, as opposed to "serious" music derived from the classical/church traditions) is that which doesn't try to be what it's not (serious music). Even if I didn't hold that opinion I still hate Rush. Being a good technician isn't enough, you need to know how to write good melodies and lyrics. That's what separates a music theorist from a composer.

Sufjan Stevens is often explicitly defined as "The best musician you've never heard of." His Illinois album is amazing. There is something in it for everyone.

I normally don't really care what I listen to. Anytime I decide I like an album I have to suffer the rants from the two music snobs in my family: my brother and my dad. Actually the only one who's mocks my tastes are my brother. But pretty much anytime I have a question about music I can call my dad up. The man has over 8000 albums (read albums = vinyl not cd's). I actually want to try to pick up a set of Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds since the last time I visited he played a little of it for me.....now I want to buy it.....damn him :)

Check out Novillero:

Novillero Site

Great music and lyrics, they remind me of Spoon in some parts.

if you like indie music, check out The Evens. It's Ian MacKaye newer band.

Quoted so I remember this one.
