I grabbed the drop box app and it only plays 15 minutes of an AVI file so I am looking at what other users have. Let me know what player works best for AVI movies as I am going on a business trip soon. Thanks

Don't mean to sound rude, but is there a reason you're using AVI? It's kind of antiquated and you might be able to get better battery life with something newer.

I'm kind of impartial to VLC myself.

I like dice; handles stuff that mxplayer and bsplayer failed to handle

Movies are posted in avi/mp4 format from the torent sites...I dont want to start to convert these to other formats.

You probably also shouldn't admit to downloading videos via torrents. They don't take kindly to that around here... Just an fyi

MX Player, it's played everything I have thrown at it without issue. Even Dice player couldn't playback a 20mbps VC-1 clip smoothly on a Snapdragon S4 while MX had no issue with it at all. I've been wanting to test them both with a 40mbps AVC clip I found but haven't gotten a chance to so far.

MX Player FTW

Also .avi is just a container file, it can contain anything including h264 etc, so it's not "old" or "inefficient" with battery power.

In fact movie playback is one of the longest lasting things you can do on a phone since everything else goes to sleep while the hardware codec ASIC on the SoC takes care of it.

MX player - it plays 1080p mkv files using hardware decode (tegra3) flawlessly. i use a custom ffmpeg, ffmpeg_v7_neon, which re-enables DTS in MX player. search XDA for it.

I like MoboPlayer. It's handled any video I've thrown at it.

MX overall.

Dice is a close second because of its features (like the ability to have a mini floating video windows).

MX Player, though on my Nexus 4 it seems to be bugged showing double for every folder?

My 2nd choice is BSPlayer, if only for the network play option.

For me, Dice player is the most compatible. It plays everything while MX won't play couple of my files. I installed custom DTS plugins for both. But what pushes Dice Player over the top is its support for network shares. With MX player, I have to first use something like ES file explorer to first access my network drive and file. Then I can use MX player to play it. But Dice Player has built-in network share support so I can just use Dice Player to search for my shared network file and play it natively from Dice Player. It saves me the step of loading and using file manager program.

Can someone explain how to import videos into Dice/MX player? I have both but I am not able to figure it out. I used dropbox and was able to do that but it didnt work to well. Can the videos be on your desktop and they are dragged to an app the downloaded to the Nexus 7? Thanks

Does it work the same way? Just drag n drop?

Plug in your phone/tablet.

Browse its directory, you should see a folder called "Movies".

Drag desired movies into this folder.

Launch media player app. They will see the files.

Okay...I am having problems doing this. I have done what you posted...I do not see the directory called Movies...is there a step that I am missing?
Thanks

When you plug your device into the computer, what folders do you see (from your computer browsing the device)? It doesn't have to be in a "Movies" folder specifically. Technically it can be in any folder, I just put mine in the Movies folder for organizational purposes.
