That's called pricematching. Haggling is what you do at a flea market or a yard sale.

isnt it also called price matching? i mean many stores allow price matching and if its cheaper somewhere else, they give you it at that price the other store offers the same product for?

Most large, chain, retail stores don't haggle. You have to show them another store in the area selling the item at a lower cost and they can match it for you. However stores that work off commision normally they canhaggle because it just comes out of the sales person's paycheck. And smaller, specialty stores that ar enormally priced higher will usually haggle with you a bit because they know they are overpriced to start with.

Good Luck.

its my guess that the sales people wont really like you all that much if you try to haggle with them

Know exactly what you should pay and don't go a penny more.

If they won't sell, you won't buy. Just buy it on-line. Show them shopping cart and if they can match great, otherwise don't buy.

never, ever pay retail for electronics.

Shipping for on-line stuff can add a lot to the final price. If you do local area price matching, make sure the competitor has it in stock. If CC calls the other store, and it's out of stock, they won't pricematch. And make sure they give you the 110% or 115%, whatever it is, for the pricematch. It can save you a few bucks and the register person doesn't always remember to take off the extra when putting the PM into the computer.

All you are doing is wasting both of your times.

A. The associate is getting paid peanuts and not enough to put up with someone argueing about a price.
B. Only a manager or ass. manager can usually change the price.

Most retails stores don't pricematch... but most retail stores don't have commission-based employees like circuit city.

Nearly everywhere that pays employees by commission with budge a bit with price on high dollar items. But don't expect to get things like movies, music, games and game systems for cheaper.

It IS possible to haggle with some of the people at Best Buy on items that they have to walk you to the front counter with. Esp. getting discounts on the installation of car equipment.

The idea you people need to understand is "You never know unless you ask."

If someone says no, then you are no worse off than you were before you asked. Done. You either shut up and pay retail or go somewhere else.

God. I would hate when people tried to haggle with me at Kmart. I'd keep telling them "I don't have the authority to do that" but they wouldn't listen. Then they'd ask to see my manager, and the manager would tell them the same exact thing. Then she would look at me like "Why'd you call me over here for this..."
