What's the best ant bait? UPDATE!!!

So I woke up today to find ants (tiny, brown, common ants) in my kitchen cabinets below my sink, with more coming in every few seconds. I tried putting out some of these but they're expired and thus probably weak as hell. Interestingly enough, I watched the ants around the baits for a while and they walk right up to the plastic square base, at which point they turn around and don't enter the "motel". ARGH.

Any recommendations? I'll be heading to Home Depot within the hour.

Update: Just installed 2 of these and 4 of these. They seem to like the terro liquid more than the Raid (they've completely encircled the large drops of terro I placed). If this doesn't wipe them out, I don't know what will. I'd post pics, but I loaned my camera to my dad for his business trip, and there are no other digital cameras in the house (cell-phones included) :(

When ants infested my house, I just opened up one of those RAID/Combat bait traps and placed the little poison bait thingy right in the midst of them (I wore latex gloves, of course).

They all went for it. I walked away and the next day they were all dead. There was a trail of dead ants leading to the hole in the wall.

lol awesome. So these traditional baits are the way to go? My concern is that they seemed taken aback by the plastic, almost as if they couldn't climb it  (given that they can scale walls)

yeah, I didn't want to wait for them to enter the trap, that's why I ripped the thing open and placed the poison food thing right on top of them.

It worked great

just make sure you use gloves when handling it, and make sure you clean that stuff up after they're all dead.

Make sure no kids or pets touch the stuff.

bahahah. I did that too. I ripped the trap open and took out the poison peanut butter inside and smeared it on the floors.

Those fuckers still wouldn't eat them so I smeared some watered-down honey on top of the poison butter.

Sure enough, they couldn't resist and they killed them all.

i don't think it mattesr, its just a matter of placement so they can find it and bring it back and poison the rest. it takes a long time to kill off a nest sometimes. deep clean the kitchen and use silicon caulk on any holes they are getting through

use Search. i posted my homemade solution to my ant problem.

every summer my house was swarming with little black ants. i've tried a dozen ant products. all a waste of $.

then i found the solution. 2 days later, not a single ant seen.

no ants all summer long.

and it was cheap (under $5) and easy. (took 2 min to make)

I'd put a half-eaten Snickers bar on the ground and surround it in a ring of bug spray. The ants will get confused and it'll be hours of enjoyment.

Searching for "ant" in posts by JEDI yields this:
"Your search contained ignored words, ignored words are words like a,and,to,between. Please re-construct your search without these ignored words."

Edit: Oh, it seems that the server maintenance last night nuked the search function. Nice.

Raid stuff works. We usually get a load of ants in early summer/spring. Luckily, I use to pick these up/kill them by the bus load with my bare hands when I was a kid (ya, that is screwed up...) so it doesn't bother me TOO much. Better than freaking house centipedes of which I have no idea where to even start in getting rid of them...

the ants in my house drank terro like it was sugar water. i went thru 2 bottles in 2yrs. they kept on coming back.

if it works for you, then great!

Well, I'm letting them gorge themselves. I've already gone through half a bottle today. :)
They will die.

home defense and bug stop are 2 really good products for ants as well. they are sprays.. odorless and clear (non staining) but a poison so you dont want to spray dishes.
but anyway they setup a barrior so the ants don't come back to the same spot.. really works good. ants of course rule the earth tho so if you kill one colony another one will take its spot.

house centipedes should be left alone, they don't bother you and take care of all the other insects.
