What's the best and easiest ways to remove red eye from photos?

I would love to learn what the best and easiest ways to remove red eye from pictures (I know these are often not the same thing), and any advice would be appreciated. I have GIMP and have access to photoshop 7.0 at school, but would be open to trying out any freeware that would suit me need. Also, would this work for "yellow eye" on a pictures of a cat (my mom likes getting updates of her "grand daughter"). Thanks

Thanks for the info- especially letting me know a new GIMP is out. As you might have figured out, I'm not exactly a pro at photo editing, so I appreciate the links.

the sponge tool in Adobe! make it as big as the red eye... click a couple times... DONE!

In iPhoto:

1) make a selection box around the eyes.
2) click the "red eye" button.
3) do whatever you want, you're done!
