Is it possible to get a dual-core processor to work with an ASUS A8V-deluxe? I'm thinking of upgrading in a few months if I have the cash, and I figure prices will have come down

Yes, with the latest bios a dual core will work.

Better hurry as 939 cpu's are starting to get scarce.

I think the FX-62 is the highest 939

They ARE on clearance....

The prices will not go down, they will only stay the same if not go up due to rarity.

You should have bought a few months ago :S that was when they were really big steals.

They are starting to get scarce, but at least the prices keep falling. However, the FX-60 is the fastest Skt. 939 dual-core. The FX-62 is AM2.

opteron 165 Denmark is the best bang for the buck right now. $153 at newegg, 1.8 that will clock to 2.5-2.7 on stock volts. Mine is at 2.7, same speed as the FX-60.

the FX-60 is 2.6 ghz....

I would get the 170 or 175, easier to OC, and I think a better HSF.

Don't buy the FX-60, buy the OEM San Diego 4000+, and OC it to 2.9Ghz. That's what I did. (Only because the Denmark Opty 165 was sold out at the time.)

When you can afford the upgrade, definitely check out the fs/ft forum. I picked up a 939 X2 3800 for $75 shipped, OCs to 2.5GHz at ~1.48v no problems. Not the greatest overclock, but certainly not bad, especially for $75; I half expected it to be a dud overclocker and hit like 2.2GHz tops (for $75 I also half expected it to not work at all lol).
