Thanks Guys, I am also looking for a new modem. After buying two winmodems that woiuld install, but.... they wouldn't connect - in aother words they were crap I am done suffering with winmodems.
Maybe Modus is right, maybe winmodems are good. Judging from my experience I'm done with them. It's like you know when you deal with a person and when he lies to you more than once, you tend not to believe him anymore? heh maybe that's a bad example but oh well.
Thanks to all for sharing their opinion, modus :) you too.

The best you say right?
I know decent HSF modem too
so you can pay more eh? hehe
go to 30 bucks dude or 50 bucks
They are viking component 56K
everyone said it was good
or Creative Labs 56K pci Digicom for 29.95
The cheap 15 bucks-20 bucks modem are a huge drain on your
cpu resources if that bothers you hehe then don't get it
Some are very poorly made and difficult to connect
Maybe what he talking about is the better of the winmodem
that is more reliable but like I say you alway get what you paid for
hehe pay little = more trouble for you.

I have a Zoom Dualmode ISA modem Model 2919L and I really like it. One feature that I like about it is call waiting. If I am online and receive another call, then it will let me know who it is and I have a choice of answering the incomming call or staying online. This is a very good feature if you only have one phone line in your house!! This modem constantly connects between 48,000 and 51,000 and it is the best modem that I have ever owned, this includes several from the 3Comm family and one Diamond Supra, (which I gave away because it was a POS!). Just my input on the subject Livin$Real.:):)

Thanks for all the input guys! I live out in BFE and was happy as hell the other day when I went to order my cable modem from Comcast. I had it all setup, appointment and all, then five min. later the phone rang and the guy said "sorry sir I was mistaken, we don't offer cable modems out there" GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! The only service I can get out here is ISDN for $80 a month plus equipment! Those damn direcpc are sh*t! So I had a second line put in and all new wiring
cuz' I only hookup at 28.8! So I'm getting a hardware modem to go along with my other pos winmodem and I'm going to shotgun them. Thanks again for all the input peeps!

I have had many modems. Best for noisy lines was the USR External (but it's still pricey). I had good connections with Diamond SupraExpress internal and external, and recently picked up a couple of BestData's 56Sx external that has also been steady 49000-53300 type connections. Costwise, the SupraExpress can probably be had for the lower cost although the BestData does go on sale at OfficeMax from time to time. Lark

Had done USR Modem user then No Longer USR Modem user then Go For it
Creative Blaster ISA 56 k for only $ 39.00 darn good modem simple same as pricey usr expensive their usr baud rate weird due auto-detect. My Creative ISA there is no auto-detect only v.90 superb above mostly 44-45 bps never down 30 bps exception usr does down 30 bps upside down 44-45 bps.

Not much difference in terms of performance. Internal modems are more convenient (no serial cable needed, no external device to power). Plus they're cheaper. But you need a free slot, can't see any LED indicators and you may not have a way to control volume on the speaker not to mention the fact the speaker is inside and its sound muffled.

I've always prefered external models. I like access to the status LED lights, speaker volume control, and power switch. Yep, sometimes you need to turn it off and on just to get Windows to initialize it!
