I have had 4 Antec PP303X power supplies. (3 in my computer, 1 in my son's) I am on the third one as the first 2 lived very short lives. I have just exchanged for the third and have not even rebuilt my system into the case. I am running a PIII 700E, Gladiac, 1 cd-rom (used mostly for installs), floppy drive, Netgear Ethernet, and SB Live!. Nothing has ever been overclocked. If another one fails I will go with the Sparkle as it is available from the same store at the same price.

To be honest there is no best PSU,just ones that work well with Athlons etc(AMD approved) I must be the only Member here with a Macron 300W AMD approved PSU( btw very quiet) so my answer is go with a AMD approved PSU from here & you will be OK.

The Antec is good...but the Enermax is so much better..

An Enermax 330 is a great power supply

To be honest the cases were still within the time frame allowed by the store for exchange. Kinda. The first one I took back was exchanged for another used one that had previously returned that week. Turned out the person's mobo was bad and they assumed the case/psu was still good and gave it to me. This one lasted about 2 weeks. I was outside the original time frame at this point, but due to the circumstances of being given a returned unit, I was allowed to exchange rather than have to RMA. The one I have now was the display as they were out of stock. And I definitely like the appearance of the Antec case more than the 'Sparkle' case they had at comparable price. ($10 more). I opted to retain the Antec looks. If it goes out again I will simply replace the power supply. I will RMA the Antec if it is still under warranty and keep it for spare.

Sparkle makes excellent power supplies. I have been using them for years. They use top quality parts and ball bearing fans.

The Antec PP303X is good. It is low cost and generally quite reliable. But the current rating is limited compared to other brand name 300W. It uses a low rpm sleeve bearing cooling fan, thermostatically controlled. It does not help cool the case because the fan hardly move any air. The fan is very quiet when new, but gets louder when getting older, a characteristic of sleeve bearing fan.

The Sparkle FSP300-60GP is better. Heavier construction, balling bearing fan and higher current ratings. The cooling fan runs at full speed. It is a noisy PS. Sparkle has a long established reputation for reliability and deservingly so. The PC Power and Cooling TurboCool 300W is identical to this model.

The Enermax EG-350E-VC(FC) is the best under $50 PS value. Highest current ratings among the three. Two Visible Ball Bearing Fans (9cm & 8cm) Fan Monitoring (FM) Function Thermal Control Fan (8cm Fan On/Off by M/B) Real Sleeping Mode Supported. It is in a class by itself.

I have used all of the above mentioned models, openned the case and measured the voltage during use. The Enermax is the clear winner.

which Enermax would one get for athlon 1.1ghz? i want to hook up like 4-5 fans to it without worrying about the power. but i don't want to spend $150 on a PS either.

The Enermax EG-350E-VC(FC) will be sufficient for your application and the Enermax EG-450E-VC(FC) will provide more margin. If you cannot find them locally, they are $45 and $75 plus shipping by mailing order. Remember that these PS are heavy and shipping cost is usually high.
