What's the best 23" LCD on the market?

I'm doing some research for a new graphics workstation I'd like to build and could use some input on a good 23" LCD that would be good for both graphics creation, but also be suited for crystal clear gaming. Does anyone know of any 23" monitor reviews or know of any 23" gaming LCDs?

Thanks!

Also, PointofView (European brand) 6800Ultra, and the ASUS 6800 "Gamer Edition."

I've been shopping for a bigger chunk of glass too...lusting over the 16x10 aspect ration units running at 1920x1200--sweat work area.

You lose a LOT of surface area going wide-screen though, so if your vision isn't too hot or you like to sit far from the screen, a 4x3 panel would probably be better. All the ones I've seen (asside from insanely expensive medical/research units) run 1600x1200. Most 4x3's seem to be marketed to business users... getting a 'real world' assessment for gaming might be tough.

Here's my wide-screen short-list:
23"
hp business L2335 ($1599 direct-value leader)
hp home F2304 ($2000ish)
viewsonic VP231w (new product-not available)
phillips 230W5 ($1850)
Sony PremierPro SDM-P232 ($1600)
24"
samsung 243T ($2000)
Dell 2405FPW (rumored Feb-March 2005 product, specs assumed like samsung)

...as the other posts said, the hp L2335 looks best right now. I went ahead and ordered a 2005FPW... at 1680x1050 it's a little better than what I'm using now. HOPING it will satisfy the upgrade-urge and save me a thousand bucks. I sit pretty close to my monitor and have great near vision, so maybe it'll do. At least I have 3 weeks to give it a try with Dell. If not, and if I where you, I'd wait to see what Dell ships later this quarter... unless you're obscenely wealthy, then by all means nab the luscious 24" Sammy now.

Regardless of what you go with, make sure you buy from a vendor with a good return policy(especially since it's really hard to find a local place to actually 'see' this class of display.) At least for me, buying in this price range I expect perfection--Manufacturers do NOT guarantee that. Dell and Costco are smooth returns for ANY reason.

no, I wouldn't buy the Apple 30". I'm a computer tech, and my boss is Apple certified. He agrees with me that the 20" and 23" apple screens are great, but the 30" has some issues.

Mmmm 24" goodness..... *drool*

Too bad dpi-wise it won't match with my 2001FP. I was hoping Dell would come out with a 22.65" 😉 WUXGA LCD so I can have a matching asymmetric DH setup.

That seems very expensive compared to the HP when you consider it is only 1600x1200 rather than 1920x1200, and 25ms rise/fall rather than 16ms.

The Sceptre Naga 23.1 inch monitor I'm using now is quite nice in terms of display quality although I'm dreaming of an Apple 30 inch.
The HP is 24 inch, isn't it? But it's a wide screen so it isn't as tall: mine is approx 13.8"x18.8" viewable so I think it may even have more surface area than an HP.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Sceptre although they don't have a good policy about bad pixels. I have only two at the very top of the screen that light blue when a white window is open below them. Unnoticable if you have a blue sky in your wallpaper, and always unnoticeable in a game.
You really have to see a display to judge it, I think. I wasn't too impressed by the Samsung or the HP 24s I saw at CompUSA. But the Apple blew me away.
CompUSA will let you return a monitor with a single bad pixel, and I think Apple and Samsung will, too.
