I'm looking to buy an extra hard drive for my system to install a second copy of Windows and Office XP which will serve as a backup in case I mess up my raid array and will keep copies of all my mp3s and important files. Since it's my backup I don't need lightning fast speed or large capacity but I want to get the most bang for the buck possible. I don't really want to spend more than 100 bucks. What do you think my best bets are???

BARRACUDA IV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
silent, fast 7200rpm for the price of a crappy 5400rpm

id get the maxtor 40gb. (i think its the maxtor diamond max something or other) when i bought mine (an oem version) about a year ago, it was about 100 bucks, so it should be less now.

The Western Digital 40-gig 7200PRM w/ 2M cache are running $76 at mWave IF you purchase them in the bubble wrap as opposed to the retail pack.

That means no cable, no docs.

Do a search for hard drives on the "Hot Deals" section.
You'll find the good deals that other Anandtech members have posted.
