What's the best 19" CRT for around ~200

My brother has a Cornerstone p1450, and it's easily the best CRT monitor I've ever seen (at least for editing text--the colors look slightly washed out). Sadly, MonitorsDirect.com/CornerStone went out of business earlier this year.

The previously mentioned NEC monitor is assumably the same as the Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 930SB. I went to Great Escape and saw the NECs and said Hey, that looks familiar...

wohoo, i have a one of a kind moniter then! I'm really sad to hear monitersdirect went out of business though. Jim was a GREAT asset to the anandtech community 🙁.

I am looking for a monitor for about the same price, what kinds of specs should I look for if i want to have it for gaming. 17in or 19in?? others ect..??

how about this

NEC Display Solutions AS900-BK Black 19" CRT Monitor 0.25mm Dot Pitch D-Sub - Retail $$$169
Thanks

Superfly, the moniter your looking at there is a lowend NEC accusync it is a low quality moniter, I'd suggest going the same way as the OP and getting the Samsung 997 or if you want to go a little cheaper a 990 would also be fine

Right now your best bet is that samsung or something from azatek

While the 991sb is a good monitor quite a few of them have problems with cold solder joints on the mainboard causing the picture to shrink to a 1/8" inch horizontal line. The fix is fairly easy if you don't mind opening a monitor up and tinkering around inside. I had to open mine up and re-solder a few spots. Still didn't get all of them, but the problem is nowhere near as severe as it was before. Now aside from that, if you can find a cheap/refurb one go for it. It really is a nice monitor with great picture quality. Try looking on eBay for one.

the dell p991 is also a good choice, bases of a sony tube. I have its predecessor, the p990, running it at 16x12x85 hz and it looks great

Yeah I got a couple of those, you can get them off Ebay for less than $100 refurb or in new condition. Cosmic dallas on ebay carries excellent refurbs.

Honestly any of these will knock your socks off considering what you are running right now. I as well have a NEC FE991 and I absolutely love the thing, but really any of these will be massive improvements over what you have now.

If you feel like something good and cheap you could head over to a site like consumer depot. Check out all of these monitors (especially the 100 dollar 19 inch viewsonics) - http://www.consumerdepot.com/categories.asp?id=MN
