well i've been using ATX systems for all these times...... Now i see BTX popping more and more frequent..
What's this BTX all about??

Any bewtter?? Worse? Noo clue

It has to do with the way the mobo is positioned and where pieces fit. Its supposed to be better for heat build up. As in lessen the build up.

It was annouced like 2-3 years ago, never caught up, you'll see it in various dell design.. but no one here will really build a btx system.. there isn't that much BTX motherboards around

basically, it's a motherboard design that is supposed to improve air flow and it also makes the motherboard stronger as well as better cpu hearsink support. it never really caught on and there are almost no available BTX mobo's today.

Also new processor are design to be lower power ... so you dont really need it...

If you fix the source of the problem, you dont need to introduce fixes and patches..

Intel announed because their P4 at the time were heaters that kept your house warm at nights. 😉 Like the above posters mentioned, it nevr caught on because cpus became more efficient and cooler.

the only BTX solutions I've encountered that you could purchase seem to only come in mini-BTX form factor.. Newegg has a few cases and motherboards, but they are pretty limited, since they are mini, in size..

As mentioned, Intel was the primary backer of the BTX format due to their fairly hot P4's.
A few OEM's build systems using the BTX format, but BTX may soon be on its death bed.

I don't think it'll ever catch on. The only PC with BTX I've ever seen was a Falcon Northwest PC Gamer reviewed over a year ago.

The advantage with BTX is that you get to put an Intel Inside sticker.
The design just never caught on.

They didn't really get more efficient.. intel saw amd was chucking out better processor using less power..

I bet you if amd did not use less power.. intel probably wouldn't change their design..

In addition to the 90mm fan on one end of the module, there's a monstrous heat dissipation contraption that looks like a series of mini CDs with a copper post running through them. The weight and bulk of the Thermal Module--and the way the chassis has integrated additional weight-bearing support so it won't crush the CPU--certainly lend credibility to claims by some that Intel's push for BTX has more to do with the P4 processor's heat problems than with pushing the industry forward.

Advanced Micro Devices has no immediate plans to offer a BTX-ready Athlon 64 chip, according to spokesperson Damon Muzny.

"We know that the other fellows have a product out there that is not as thermally efficient as ours, but with the Athlon 64 we're fitting just fine within the ATX thermal envelope."

That said, Muzny notes that AMD won't ignore BTX forever. "When the industry moves to a new standard we're not one to buck that standard. We'll work with the industry and with our partners to do what's best for customers."

BTX is suppose to improve thermal efficiency of systems by rearranging components that generate the most heat and allow for better cooling via less fans.

IC~
so.. basically it all comes to a more efficient heat DISPATCH for the PC systems..

So since Intel is trying to Switch into this new Form Factor, while AMD does not face the HEAT issues, then..... what r the chances for the industry to go into BTX? coz i do hear this over and over... bu as u all said..
The components are not in the market

Intel may not switch now that Conroe fixed their heat issues... all the new conroe board are still atx.. only oem manufactures makes btx which is for people like dell and gateway.
