I'm looking for a scanner that is fast. I don't really care about quality, cuz they are all around there. I know the Epson 610 was real fast. From warm up to scan is under 20 seconds. But no winXP drives :( My old Umax took like 2 minutes to warm up, and another minute to scan. What are some super fast scanners avail for WinXP?

Don't think it's the fastest, but my new Microtek ScanMaker 5600 is plenty speedy. Just a second or two for the preview scan, then once you've got it all cropped or whatever, (depending on resolution-size-etc.) Just another few (30) seconds for the final scan. Plus it's nice 'n cheap. I picked mine up for $179, and it came with an Mp3/CD player. :)

There are many different aspects to speed. I have the Microtek ScanMaker 5700 (firewire bus), and it's ability to transfer images across the bus is awesome, compared to the scsi and usb scanners I've had in the past. Of course that time will depend on the "file size" being transferred, which in turns depends on the original image size, the scanned resoution and color depth selected, etc.

Now the time to warm up from cold is another matter. Couldn't tell you much about that, because I don't power down the scanner. (Don't think it's bad, but I just don't know.)

My Epson 636U doesn't have WinXP drivers either. I use the Win2000 drivers and they work great.

Warmup on the 5600 is only a few seconds... 30 seconds for a 600 dpi scan isn't slow, trust me... lol
