What's the absolute best ice cream brand money can buy?

As I sit here eating chocolate ice cream, I wonder if I could be doing better. Certainly I deserve the best. If I walked into a supermarket looking for the best commercially available ice cream ever, what would I be looking at purchasing?

It is either Ben & Jerrys World's best chocolate, Godiva Dark Chocolate, or Ghiradehhli Dark.

Both are like $1.25 a serving.

Edy's / Dryer's usually wins the taste tests for "standard" flavors.

Ben & Jerry's is good for offbeat stuff but you're supporting their psychotic liberal agenda by purchasing it. Not that I care.

Godiva is by far the richest ice cream I've had, perhaps a bit TOO rich. I can eat about two spoonfulls before I go into insulin shock.

Also, Dreyer's Dreamery is a great alternative to B&J's. More consistent and less what-the-hell-is-this-in-my-ice-creamy.

Culver's has the best milkshakes I've ever tasted - however you can't buy their stuff at a store for instance, on the restaurant.

I absolutely LOVE Blue Bunny Premium Natural Vanilla Bean. All the Blue Bunny Premium stuff is pretty good. Cheap, too (relatively, anyway, at about $5 for a 1/2 gallon). Gotta be Premium though, not their regular stuff. I think it's a only regional brand though, available primarily in Iowa and surrounding states.

Ben and Jerrys

Best IMO

BTW amnesiac, they sold the company. Greedy facist capitalists are in charge now, instead of flaming commie liberals. 😀

NICE!. I can buy the ice cream with a clear conscience now! 😀

Dreyers = rip off. They are too mainstream and don't even use real oreos.

Premium mass market ice cream = haagen daaz, ben & jerrys, ghiradhelli, and godiva.

They charge $3-5 per a pint.

the best ice cream in every town is probably sold at a mom and pop shop.

in san francisco, the best ice cream is probably Marco Polos in Sunset.

the absolute best ice cream money can buy is from the Penn State Creamery. Made fresh daily, right here at good old PSU. Mere feet from where I am sitting right now. demand is so high that they can package it in dry ice to travel up to 48 hours in order for students to be able to take it home

best ice cream you can buy anywhere else? dunno, busy eating Creamery ice cream.

Dreamery. I'm eating Breyer's Mint Chip right now and dang, that's good stuff. Probably not top of the line, but I love it.
I love that stuff too. 🙂 However, my all-time favourite ice cream is still Laura Secord's Burgundy Cherry.

I think that I will soon have a taste test. Haagen-Daaz vs. Ben & Jerry's vs. Ghiradhelli vs. Godiva. Long live the fighters! 🙂

taos cow in taos NM was, but i'm not sure that they're operating anymore.

amy's ice cream is very good as well.

you probably want something that's mass marketed tho... so... blue bell.

I like breyers neopolitan icecream. good stuff. doesn't taste "fluffy" or "gummy" like some other ice creams i've eaten. Dreyers' homemade style ice cream is pretty good too (specifically their peaches and their chocolate).
