There's a website that sells a drive-bay kit (eg. it goes below your CD-ROM drive) and lets you purchase pieces to put into it...

For example, you can buy the kit and then a headphone jack, and compact flash card reader. Now you install the drive below your CD-ROM and you have jacks in front of your computer as well as a compact flash reader.

Alternatively, I'm looking for a good stand-alone compact flash reader (USB or firewire)

I bet you're thinking of www.frontx.com?

For the CF reader, it's too bad Inwin doesn't make the i530's any more :( Very nice unit with 1 USB, 1 Firewire, mic and headphone, four card slots, and IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE JUNK unlike most of them with their tasteless labels/grahics. Lian-Li's aluminum one has never given me any trouble either but it doesn't have anything but card slots. Mitsumi makes a floppy drive that has a card reader as well, Newegg and others have those if you need a floppy drive anyway.

Cyberguys have a good selection. I have had very good luck with the Imation C/F Reader writer. It is native C/F with inserts for other media.
