whats that heatsink that uses 80mm fans?

hey guys,

I am planning on getting an axia kinda soon, maybe, and have to start looking at HSFs to cool that beast.

I remember that there is one socket-a heatsink that is coming out that you can put a 80mm fan right on without a shroud. Am I mistaken?

if there really is such a HSF, can someone tell me what it is, how much, and where if anywhere can I find it!

thanks,
I think vantec rings a bell, but im not sure

The Swiftech MC462 uses an 80mm fan. It's the best cooler there is right now (short of water cooling) but it's DAMN LOUD!!

Check out Anand's Socket A/370 cooler roundup

I'm not sure how much it is or where you can buy it (I haven't been looking) but I'm guessing it will be pretty expensive.

thanks a lot guys,

how big is this damn thing? jeez, im not sure if that will fit in my mobo (a7v133), and 60bucks for the bare heatsink is a little steep.

ill think about it.

The Taisol CGK line will fit one, but you might have to get an adapter. I'm getting one (~$25) plus an adapter to use with a Panaflo.

And, BTW, the A7V133 (which is what I have, too) has more room than any other motherboard. I've not heard of any HS that won't fit it. (Okay everyone, prove me wrong now 😀)

I am using a Thermoengine right now and have a 60mm --> 80mm fan adapter from Plycon enroute with a 42 CFM 80mm Sunon fan. Of course the fan adapter itself costs about $50 but I figure I can use it with any future upgrade as well.

How much does the 60-->80mm fan adapter weigh? My Kanie is heavy as it is....

It's cast aluminum so it isn't terribly heavy! Of course, with a heavy cooler like the kanie, you must be careful if you transport your pc as it is.

These adapters here are cheap and lightweight. You can also make them yourself if you're moderately handy!

Cheers!

yeah i looked at the adapters at that cpufx page earlier. frankly they look pretty junky. I think I could whip something up thats at least as good as that and try tossing my medium output panaflow on that bad boy. definately moves more air than the volcanoII stock fan..
