Whats taking up all the space?

I'm trying to help someone with their computer and cannot for the life of me figure out whats taking up all the hard drive space. This is a Windows XP computer.

I tried using this to look, and it only shows 23.5 GB being used.

Yet the computer shows it's using almost 70GB. What could it be? Anyway a hacker can hide the files? System restore is turned off.

Yes there is a variety of ways to hide folders etc even with "Show Hidden Files" selected.

Google hiding folders and files in XP.

Windows tends to grow over time, not sure why, or where this space is actually used, and I've never really taken the time to look into it much.

You could try using an app like spacemonger which maps out what uses space using a graphical display so it makes it easier to visualize.

This puppy will give you good idea. Check ccleaner for a disk cleanup tool as well. it works wonders in cleaning temp files that accumulate. (like 1+gig memory dumps that are written to disk when you bluescreen).

For a colorful graphic representation of files and folders size install the free utility WinDirStat. Google WinDirStat and you will find all relevant info for this award winning free software.

Edit: I just looked at the app linked to above which appears extremely similar to WinDirStat. Either app will work well.
