What is so special about the H70. Please can someone tell me is this a right way of going to cool your system. Is this cooler overclock friendly.

It is very overclocker freindly. Ive read 5 reviews of it so far and it is usually doing slightly better than the top air coolers. While still not as good as a true watercooling setup it is still better than air so therefore worth looking into if overclocking and you really want the best cooling system thats bolt on with no modding required.

That said it is also more expensive than the top air coolers, so from a strictly price/performance standpoint its not any better than the top air coolers. And since the top air coolers will get you to 4.2Ghz or so if your CPU can keep up one could make an argument that the H70 is overkill and you are better off saving the cash and going with a NH-D14/Megahalem/Silver arrow.

Im getting one in the next few days for my HTPC and will post my impressions of quality and performence when it arrives, unfortunatly its going on a AMD 7750BE so nothing crazy.

Yep very, it's basically an H50 with an extra thick rad and a slightly better pump. Should be just under the best air coolers by a couple degrees. Bonus is that its not GIGANTIC like most air coolers, and is easier to use in smaller cases.

Installed one last night to replace a Hyper 212+ and temps dropped 6 degrees or so.

Its say water cooling but where do you put the water on this thing. I looked at pictures all see is two huge fans and a radiator. How heavy is the Noctua, will it break my motherboard. That thing is huge.

Its sealed, thats why its not real watercooling.

Its no maintenance which is why its so appealing, just plug it in and go.

No the noctura will not break your motherboard. Mine's sitting just fine with no bend in the mobo. Its an excellent heatsink with a very well designed backplate and mounting mechanism. Very secure. But its a bitch to get into a small case like my Antec 300 but its possible.

yes the 902 is bigger than my 300 and i wish i had one :)

I think i might go for a 1200 as my next case, or one of the corsairs but man they are pricey.

its 20 numbers higher then the H50... :D

seriousness.... comapred to a H5O, it offers you 2 fans, and a upgraded radiator.

Soooooo many better cases then the 900/1200s now.

Totally off topic. I have a 900, and really hate it compared to everything else thats out there now.

Pretty much everything has been said about how great the H70 will cool, but it also cleans up your case nicely.

Yes. It's nice. It's not as good as the very very best air (and not in the same league as real water cooling). But it's a GREAT product.

I recommend the H50/70 over most air because it's not huge, ugly, doesn't block ur ram, etc.

Why isn't it "real" watercooling?" It cools, and it uses water (with additives).

What you mean is that it isn't real "enthusiast" water cooling.

Depending on cost it might be worth the extra because dual fans sound like a popular upgrade to the H50.

I recommend the H50/70 over most air because it's not huge, ugly, doesn't block ur ram, etc.

It also dumps hot air directly out of your case (if you do not mount it as recommended).

Ok Zap you are right, i mean real enthusiast watercooling :)

I picked up my HTPC parts today including the H70

Ill say this about the H70, dont try and put it in a Nmedia HTPC-6000 case. Just dont do it, its not a good idea, it will cost you blood, sweat and tears.

Bad things happen when you let your girlfriend pick the case, and she told me i could not drill any holes in it or modify the exterior. She thinks it looks great!

When i look at it i have nightmares of the last 3 hours i spent trying to get the god damn rad mounted, and then everything else installed. And figuring out where to put the HDD since i had to remove the HDD cage. Also lost the ability to mount an internal optical drive as it was attached to the HDD cage. But this doesn't bother me as all my DVD's have been ripped onto my server anyways, and i have an external optical drive for OS installation or if i want to watch a DVD i dont have ripped already, i intend to get an external blu ray drive in the near future.

So the H70 is in there now and im waiting for the glue to dry(dont ask). And as soon as it does ill fire it up and see how the H70 works out. I decided a 7750BE was a complete waste of time and not worthy of the H70 so i bought a new C3 stepping Athlon II X4 635 for $100. Maybe ill get it to 4Ghz, overkill for a HTPC but figured it would be fun to play with. Was going to buy a Phenom II 550/555/560 for $100-$120 and hope for core unlocking but they were not in stock when i picked up the other parts and i had to settle for the athlon II.

Quality wise the H70 is great, looks well constructed and the fans look like good quality units and are not super loud at full speed and move a good amount of air. But i will say the water tubes are short and it will limit where you can mount the rad, and they are not very flexible. Also the 3 pin connectors on the included fans are very short and unlikely to reach your mobo headers depending on where you mount the rad, i used 3 to 4 pin adapters(which were not included) so this was not a big deal as i got some extra length from them.

Will post temps in the morning when i fire it up for the first time, and install ubuntu, hopefully i can get the sensors applet working ok with that mobo, and hopefully it boots with that CPU.

You might want to sign up to newegg's e-blast newsletter. They just recently had a 24hr sale on the Corsair 700D for $139.99 shipped AMIR. It's not the first time they've had that sale either, so it's possible it will come back.

Screw the temps. I wanna see pics of the interior mods and glue!

Camera broke a while ago, can take some cell phone shots of you want though. I ran into some more problems though, nothing is ever as easy as you want it to be. Fired up HTPC this morning for the first time and 20 min into the linux install i hear a clicking sound, it sounds like a fan is out of balance or something. Check them all and narrow it down to the outside fan on the H70 rad, stop it with my finger and look at it and it looks ok... so i continue the install and 30 seconds later i hear a snap sound and then a death wobble sound. One of the blades broke off the fan and then it was shaking horribly because it was out of balance after losing a blade. great.

So fast forward to now, Girlfriend can go screw herself about no exterior mods, i busted out the dremel and cut a 5" square hole in the side of the case and put the rad right up against it with the one remaining fan on the inside sucking air in and then the rad pressed firmly against the inside of the case right over the hole i cut. So it can draw fresh air in directly from outside the case with no blockages. Should work out well even with only 1 fan i think. And the case is black and the rad is black so it doesnt look super ghetto or anything :)

And incase anyone is wondering the P11 bios for the foxconn A7da-s supports the C3 635's no problems. Will start the OC as soon as i get some kind of linux temp monitoring going.

Everything I've read suggests the included fans are somewhat loud. I couldn't even stand the single fan that came with the H50. Yes, I'm that picky when it comes to noise. How bad are they really? How about switching them out for a pair of NF-P12's?

I'd get some Scythe GT's but they're never available around here.

I installed one in a FT02, didnt hear it run, but he hasn't complained at all about noise, said he didnt notice a difference.

I read some reviews on this H70 looks like it's on par with something like TRUE and can do better in certain situations but little worse than top air cooler in other setups. It's definitely getting very close to the top. very impressive.

Hi ,
in summer my case temp is 45-50 degree C the heat produced by CPU( that will be max 170W, i think power consumed=heat produced during intense gaming) will get decipated by H 70 plus some casing fan ,
means max temp should go to 55 degree C

Is this as quiet as the Noctua NH-D14? If so, I will likely go this route.

not even close, i own the H70 and a NH-D14 and the noctura is definatly quieter. However im sure if you slapped 2 noctura fans on the H70 it would then be just as quiet.
