What's so great about Nextel Direct Connect?

Maybe I'm overlooking the obvious, but who wants everyone in the room to overhear a conversation? I've heard people say it's better than a cell phone conversation because you just press a button. But it is synchronous only, and the other person needs their direct connect phone on (just like a cell phone).

So somebody explain how this is any better than a cell phone call?

So it's like most other gimmicks: they throw in a "neat" feature that looks great, but doesn't do a lot for the majority of people. Then they market the heck out of it like everyone needs it.

Or they're just advertising towards the niche markets that would need DC?

i love my direct connect.... i can talk to someone when i want... stop... come back after being interrupted, and not have to dial a number again.
