What's so good about Soundstorm?

I have a AN7 board with the Soundstorm integrated audio, but I don't even use it, because I have an Audigy card. I hear a lot of ppl raving about Soundstorm, so I'd like to know why everyone thinks it's so good, and does it offer any advantages over an Audigy card. I tried it out for a while, and I can see some disadvantages:

1. No bass/treble adjustments in control panel

2. No EAX processing features like on the Audigy. By that, I mean I can add effects like chorus and distortion to any sound in realtime, and it only works on the Audigy

Also, is there a way to use the two cards at the same time? I have a front panel I/O connected to the onboard sound, will it work if I use the Audigy as my main card?

The main advantage is the real-time Dolby Digital encoding. No other sound solution does this, whether onboard or discrete, except for the newly released Hitec X-Mystique 7.1 card. If you want to get 5.1 surround sound for games through a single digital connection (instead of running 6 separate analog wires) to a receiver or speaker set or whatever, one of the real-time DD encoders is the only way. [Edit: There's Creative's proprietary Mini-DIN connection too, but it only works with specific speaker sets...it's not exactly a standard.]

Also, I'm not sure if you can use two sound cards at the same time. For your number 1 - I have bass and treble adjustments in NVmixer and they work just fine. What drivers are you using, etc.? Also, there is an "Environment" settings page too in NVmixer, although I have not played with it.

should be able to disconnect the onboard sound front the front panel and connect them to your audigy.
